    Chapelle du Rosaire
Chapelle du Rosaire was created by Henri Matisse for the Domincan nuns of Monteils. Matisse partially intended the Chapelle to be a gesture of his thanks to one of the sisters of the order, who nursed him back to health following his bout with a debilatating illness. His intent was to design and decorate a 'culmination of a whole life dedicated to the search for truth.' He put forth this concept with numerous simply rendered leaf forms as well as abstract patterns. He used such colours as lemon yellow, sapphire blue, and aquamarine to accentuate his artwork, and he depicted Saint Dominic in just a few lines. Also here is the 'Stations of the Cross', a black and white tiled piece with Matisse's self-styled 'tormented and passionate' figures. Matisse's work was completed in the late spring of 1951, and at that time the Bishop of Nice came to bless the chapel. Three years later, Matisse died. Today, visitors can see these works and more. L'Espace Matisse is a gallery showcasing how Matisse delt with the design of the chapel during it's construction. It also houses lithographs and some religious articfacts that were important to him. The admission price provides access to both this gallery and the Chapelle itself.

    Cité Episcopale
Cité Episcopale is home to several attractions. In the centre of the complex is the Cathedrale St-Leonce. Construction was started on it in the 10th century, and many other parts date back to the 12th and 13th century. Several different architectural styles are used here, but it's most impressive are Renaissance. Among them is an ornately carved walnut door depicting the Virgin's life. Also located here is the 5th century baptistery. It is one of the oldest in France, and, like many paleo-Christian baptisteries, it is octagonal in shape, and features eight black granite columns with white capitals. There are two separate sized doors here as well. The smaller door was used for entry, and once inside a bishop would wash the person's feet and baptize them. They would then exit through the larger door, which symbolized their enlarged spiritual stature. Also located inside the quarters is a 12th century cloister, whose ceiling is divided in 1, 200 small panels depicting animals, portraits and more by 15th century artists. The Musee Archeologique is here as well, and features numerous Roman antiquities that were discovered in the area. Admission to Cité Episcopale includes entry to all the sites, and an optional guided tour of the cloister and baptistery is available.
